Chris graduated from high school on May 13, 2008. Board Chairman Moffitt, on behalf of the church, recognized Chris during the Fellowship Hour on Sunday, May 18th. Chairman Moffitt is reading the letter of commendation for his support, sharing of talents with the church and wishing him a successful pursuit of a higher education. Other pictures can be seen in the gallery under the title of Chris Winston
The church has been enjoying Chris Winston’s talents for several months. Perhaps you would like to know a little more about him.
Chris was born in Thomas Hospital, but in his short (soon to be 19 years on February 28th) life he has done a lot of traveling. He has been with his grandparents since he was three years old and lived with them in North Carolina, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky and north Alabama. He has lived in Daphne since 2005 and is a senior at Daphne High School.
Chris has a brother, Justin, who is in the Army, a sister, Brianna, who attends Robertsdale High School, and step siblings, Jacob and Emily on his father’s side.
It is no surprise that music is Chris’ first love and what he considers his greatest accomplishment. He writes and arranges music, (he wrote harmony for the Daphne alma mater), sings, plays the piano, the clarinet and a little organ. He has participated in All State Choir, All County Choir, and the Eastern Shore Choral Society to name a few, and he aspires to be a musical conductor. He has even been involved in ballroom dancing the last three years.
Athletics have also played a part in Chris’ life. He was a wide receiver in middle school and tenth grade and in track ran the 100 meter dash in 4.6 seconds.
Baby Boy and Bailey are his pet dachshunds.
By the way, Chris would like for everyone to know that he will do odd jobs for car money. He hopes to attend Faulkner State in Bay Minette this fall and needs transportation!
A live oak stands
On the lawn of the church.
On its branches, thick as trees themselves,
Grow Resurrection ferns.
On the altar candle flames shine
On a single strand of
Cobweb, hanging from a ceiling light.
The pastor calmly sits through the anthem
And the Bible reading,
Then stands to preach.
He sees in his congregation
Stolid pillars of the church,
Like the live oak tree,
And pure souls, like the candle flames,
And those whose faith is just a single cobweb strand.
One or two, sitting in the pews,
Have souls that need spring cleaning,
Like the lights,
And three or four, the very old,
Wait for the Resurrection, like the ferns.

2008 Honorary Chairman, National Day of Pray Task Force
Holy Father, in a world where so many are hungry,
You have given us food in abundance;
In a world where so many are hurting,
You offer to bind up our wounds;
In a world where so many are lonely,
You offer friendship to every heart;
In a world longing for peace,
You offer hope.
Yet, we are so stubborn and resistant.
Have mercy upon us, O Lord.
Our nation is at a crossroads this year;
we look to You to be our strength and shield.
Please give us the guidance to elect one who will honor you
and to respond to the wisdom from above
so that our hope may be renewed and our blessings be treasured.
In God’s holy name. Amen
The organ is wearing out, and it is very difficult for our organist to keep it in good working order. After much discussion with our choir director, and our minister, the worship Committee at it’s April 2 meeting voted to recommend to the board that no more money be spent on repairs for our organ. The last effort to repair it would have cost $780 with no guarantee that it would last long. Since we cannot afford to buy a new one, we would simply use the piano until we can afford a new one.
